RENNES, since 2019

‘It seems that art is still the best way to achieve mutual understanding between peoples,’ Soëtsu Yanagi.
As a nomadic artist, I have always tried to find a simple and universal language in my creations. Clay has been my material of choice for 25 years. Trained in sculpture by artists in India, Brazil, Paris and London, I rediscovered the material in Tokyo, in a traditional ceramics workshop (2016-2019), where I learned to model and fire in different ways. Since returning to France, to Rennes, I have been working simultaneously with sculpture and ceramics, between empty and full, combining or crossing my techniques.
My sculptures are symbolic. Refined in their treatment, they remain raw in their material. They speak of the dimension of the soul and a possible representation.
My ceramics celebrate the world of tea. Bowls, tea boxes and vases are hand-modelled in the Japanese Mingeï spirit, according to which the object must be simple and useful.
I model with the energy of the moment and spontaneity, always seeking harmony in the emerging form.

I invite you to discover a selection of works recently created in Rennes and during my long stays. Some are available for sale and can be viewed in my artist's studio, by appointment. In parallel with my creative work, I offer ceramics classes and courses at the Atelier Galerie de l'Ombre Blanche in Rennes.

TOKYO (2017-2019)

DISCOVERY OF CERAMICS In Tokyo, I picked up my sculptor's tools again, after a year of being away. I joined the studio of ceramist Fumio Kadoya where I learned traditional Japanese ceramic techniques (modeling and firing) but also a more philosophical approach to working with clay. I began researching the ovoid shape "Around the Egg" as a possible representation of the soul, collaborating with calligraphers to give meaning to my thoughts and strength to the line.

NANTES (2013-2016)

I work with clay and plaster around femininity, a theme that will become recurrent.

LONDON (2009-2013)

in 2009, I joined the collective Make Space Studios (50 artists) located on the rails of Waterloo station. I focused my research on the fragility of bodies. My forms become more and more organic.

PARIS (2004-2009)

Back in Paris in 2004, in the studio of sculptor-painter Jaildo Marinho, I trained in casting and patina techniques and worked with plaster and concrete. My work became introspective with the beginning of a research on the fragility of the body which translates into "Body Imprints" and "Body Barks". RIO DE JANEIRO (2000-2004)

I joined the studio of sculptor Marcus Salles and began drawing at the Beaux-Arts du Parc Lage, under the direction of Brazilian painter Gianguido Bonfanti. I set up my gaze and learned to see. I set up my first studio at the bottom of my garden and worked on body balance. in the circus and in the game of capoeira. Photo credit: Vanessa Iglesias

NEW DELHI (1996-2000)

ENCOUNTER WITH SCULPTURE. My training as a sculptor began in New Delhi in 1998 at the Triveni Art Center. I started modeling for the first time and learned as well humility and patience. Photo credit: @magali.in
